Generator Fuel Efficiency Audit: Liters/kWh Benchmarks, Diesel Theft Prevention & IoT Telemetry

Standard benchmark curves for Perkins, Cummins, Caterpillar, and Volvo Penta diesel engines. How to detect fuel siphonage, engine wear, and unmetered line losses automatically with PG Unite.

1. The Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) Metric

Diesel fuel accounts for 65% to 75% of total operating expenses for private power utilities and mini-grids. The primary metric of generator health is Specific Fuel Consumption (kWh produced per Liter):

Generator_Efficiency = Total_Metered_kWh_Delivered / Total_Diesel_Liters_Burned
3.3 – 3.8 kWh/LOptimal Range: Prime load (70–80% load factor), healthy injectors, and turbocharger efficiency.
2.8 – 3.2 kWh/LSub-Optimal: Light loading (wet stacking), line resistance losses, or minor fuel siphonage.
< 2.8 kWh/LCritical Alert: Active diesel theft, injector leakage, bypass lines, or faulty master totalizer meters.

2. Standard Diesel Consumption Benchmarks by kVA Rating

PG Unite automatically audits your logged fuel fill-ups against manufacturer standard performance curves:

3. Automated Fuel Theft Defense in PG Unite

Tank Level Drop Anomaly Detection

If the fuel level in your bulk storage tank decreases during shutdown hours or decreases faster than current kW generator output warrants, an immediate WhatsApp alert is triggered to the owner.

Delivery Invoicing Reconciliation

Match fuel tanker delivery notes against physical ultrasound tank level rise to ensure 100% of paid liters actually enter the tank.
